Appeal

The Trustees launched an appeal in March 2001 to help fund a number of major improvements to enable the Library to meet the needs of modern scholars.

The Trustees have affirmed that it is their wish to develop the Library in ways which will enhance its abilities to make a significant contribution to Protestant nonconformist studies and to scholarship generally.
To achieve these goals the Trustees have identified the need to improve the conservation of its nationally significant collections, both manuscript and printed, and to enhance access to the collections by computerising the Library catalogue and by improvements to the Reading Room.
The Trustees have adopted a building works programme to meet these objectives. They include the construction of
  • a new strongroom
  • a disabled person’s entrance
  • basement rolling stacks and picture store
  • the refurbishment of Reading Room and Issue area
  • a bindery and conservation laboratory
The Trustees are committed to raising £600,000 in total, but have identified the strongroom project (at a cost of about £200,000) as the priority for the next phase of the Library development.

So far the appeal programme has raised a sum of £130,000 as a result of the generosity of Friends, Trustees and Readers. The outcome of a number of applications to major trust bodies is still awaited.

Further details on the Appeal, and an Appeal brochure are available from the Director.
